#FBF: Fine Art + Fashion

Just over a week ago, fine art, fashion, and philanthropy collided at the annual NBAF (National Black Arts Festival) Fine Art + Fashion event co-hosted by luxury retailer Neiman Marcus. Always an elegant affair attended by a stellar who’s who list of Atlanta notables, the soirée celebrated the burgeoning talent of exceptional artists from multiple art disciplines.

What makes the non-traditional fundraiser so exciting for fashion lovers in the area is that it distinctly highlights the art of fashion by recognizing and displaying – in coveted Neiman Marcus windows – the work of such promising designers. Fashion innovator Azede Jean Pierre, a previous honoree, was a presenter for the evening.  With Neiman Marcus at the helm, the evening’s entertainment was nothing short of spectacular, with a full-fledged fashion show curated by none other than renowned Senior VP/ Creative Director Ken Downing. The luxurious show magnificently highlighted Ken’s quintessential list of seasonal trends.  Here’s a snapshot of Mr. Downing’s suggested do’s for spring:

Spice Market Colors
“It don’t mean a thing if it don’t have that zing!” Yummy colors that remind you of your favorite spice: Paprika, sage, saffron, and cayenne are all on this season’s style menu.

The New Bohemian
Jet set meets gypsy: Couture meets Cochella is the spirit of this trend. Layers of luxurious pieces for a free spirit but fashion-forward reinvention of silhouettes from the past.

This flirty fabulous feature is found on everything from frocks to socks. If you want to shake things up a bit, shimmy-shake and show off a bit by adding a little movement to your look.

Mix, Don’t Match
Who says you can’t wear two or three outfits at once. Pants with dresses, scarfs in spring; mix the silhouettes and seasons, just remember to keep it chic!
